All our worldly goods in one pile.

This is the pile of stuff that we are taking up to the boat. There will be clothing and a few more small items by the time we finally pack up the trailer, but basically this is it.

Non-yachties will be stunned to see that nearly fifty year’s worth of possessions can be packed into a small mound. Believe me it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get to this state. We have given away, thrown away, or sold most of what we used to think was important, and reduced everything down to ONLY the stuff that we will actually need on the boat.

The process started a couple of years ago, hand in hand with work to present the house in the best possible light for sale. A lot of stuff has gone to the tip, and eBay has been very useful.  I’m finding it actually liberating to reduce the crap I own down to the bare essentials. I recommend it!

Yachties will have the opposite view of the mountain. They will be thinking that we are taking too much! I will point out that there are two complete scuba setups, a desalinator, a powered deck snorkel, and a lot of other technical items for the boat. Our actual personal items are only a fraction of this.
